Bright futures community service essay

Bright Futures programs meet after school for three hours Monday through Thursday, 32 weeks during the school year and 6 weeks in the summer. Students participate daily in homework help, targeted academic assistance, mentoring, and service-learning and select from a rotating menu of clubs and activities. Clubs focusing on student interests in science, the arts, technology, engineering, culinary, and physical fitness integrate writing skills, personal development, and specific skills to support a successful transition from elementary to middle and from middle to high school.

So when we saw an opportunity to support both residents and businesses through the Weld County Bright Futures Grant Program, we knew it was the right thing to do. In fact, we feel so strongly about this program we approved the dedication of $15 million to the fund in 2016 to offset the tax credits. Through this program, students will further their education, businesses and residents will receive a property tax credit toward their taxes, and our overall county workforce will be better trained and skilled. The program is simple. Set up as a workforce development fund, the Weld County Bright Future Grant Program is a tuition assistance program for Weld County residents who graduate from high school starting with the Class of 2016, GED recipients, who receive their GED after January 1st, 2016, and Honorably Discharged US Veterans. It is funded by donations from taxpayers who receive tax incentive credits for their contribution. When you give to the Weld County Bright Futures Grant Program, you are not only taking advantage of the Weld County property tax credit, but also helping a high school graduate or one of our veterans achieve their educational goal. Lumina’s Community Partnership for Attainment work aims to deepen the impact of cross-sector, place-based efforts to increase higher education attainment in communities and cities across the country. Bright Futures is one of 75 national communities selected for this program and have been recognized as “innovation leaders” in improving graduation rates.
